2024 Cherry Blossom Shoots

Limited Edition Shoot

Dog Mood has been on hiatus for a while but I'm back and I'm starting this year with a bang! Cherry Blossom Shoots. What a way to kick off spring. I have a few locations around town where the cherry blossoms are perfect for pet and human portraits. This is a really special time of year in Victoria and it is sooo short-lived that we have no time to waste.

Beginning Saturday March 2, I'm taking 30-minute bookings for my secret locations in downtown Victoria where the cherry blossoms look phenomenal. You can decide whether you would like to take some shots with your dog and I strongly encourage this because they make gorgeous photos. We can also do solo photos of your pets.

You will not only get all the best digital prints from the shoot but a 5x7 art print professionally placed in a thick 8x10 museum-grade mat.

Josie

April 2022 - Losing Josie

I received a sad message last night from a client that her beloved English bull terrier just passed away from lung cancer. This hit especially hard because she was a huge source of comfort during the COVID-19 pandemic over the last couple of years.

I photographed Josie in the summer of 2019 at her house in Duncan and I found this little girl to be both goofy and charming. She loved exploring the smells of her big backyard because they where on the edge of the city and there was so much wildlife. There were rabbits, deer and other pesky critters and it was Josie's job to keep them out of the yard. We caught her attention with a basket of strawberries and between shoots she would stretch out her stocky little body, splaying her legs out in a comical manner.

Josie definitely made me fall in love with her antics. She was a cuddler and loved people. Her mom has a hilarious story of how she practically stalked the rescue organization to get her because so many people wanted Josie. She could not have gone to a more loving and deserved home.

English bull terriers are kind of a specialized breed with a lot of quirks and health issues. They are courageous and fun-loving but can also be independent and stubborn. Josie was full of kisses and spunk! She definitely loved her strawberries.

Kim is heartbroken over her loss and asked me for Josie's gallery once again as she had misplaced the previous photos from three years ago. She told me she was grateful we did this shoot because she has no other good photos of her dog and we arranged to make some framed prints.

There is no time on earth long enough to share with the animals we love or prepare our hearts to say goodbye. Josie I'm so glad I met you. I'm so glad we had these photos so your mom can hold you close to her heart. You keep those deer out of your yard until we see you again.

March 2022 - Dachshund meetup

Nothing is more fun than a dachshund meetup, There were about 20 doxies at this event all more cuter than the next. Turns out they love dehydrated liver treats and are willing to give you their full attention if you have some. I sometimes do events like meetups and birthday parties. However, they are different than full doggo sessions because there are multiple dogs and therefore difficult to get to know individual dogs enough to provide a lot of variety.

February 2022 - Valentines Day mini sessions

We had some lovely pups run through our heart balloon garden in a series of mini sessions for Valentine's Day, including the Sparky Snack Trio. Max,

Tessa and Sophie were completely unphased by the balloons while Bella the pug was pretty curious about these strange foil balloons flapping in the wind. Sessions were 20 minutes long and clients were given a variety of photos for their social media.

2021 Summer promotions

Dog Mood Photography launched the Dog Days of Summer promotion in June 2021, offering a different theme every month. These limited edition sessions showed just a taste of what professional photography can do to elevate photos of your pup.

I love creating print art from my photography to use as home decor. I offer a number of fine art prints, albums and wall canvas to display in your living spaces. However, for this promotion I decided to use unique products I normally don't offer from my professional printers. See below for some of the themes we've already explored this summer.

June 2021 - Beach Days

Shot on a variety of beaches in the Greater Victoria area, these 20 minute sessions showed dogs doing what they do best, having fun exploring the beach. There is no formal posing. Dogs just ran around and had fun while we captured the moment. Clients received a gallery of 10-15 shots for their social media and one shot was turned into a 5x7 glossy magnetic art print.

July 2021 - Ice Cream Faces

There is nothing funnier than watching dogs eat ice cream. The absolute pleasure on their face. In these 20 minute sessions we took a series of shots of dogs eating organic ice cream or frozen yogurt. Clients received a gallery of shots and three pics were chosen to create a 12x8 mounted art piece their home or office.

Some dogs were easy, politely licking the cone repeatedly as we snapped away in burst mode. Others were not so easy. Astro the Great Dane managed to extort four cones out of us because he kept unexpectedly swallowing the cones whole like a great white shark before we could get even one shot. His antics made us laugh and we had a huge variety of shots to choose from when it came time to make his art print.

August 2021 - Puppies!

They are small and squishy for such a short time before they start growing and growing. [Unless you have a chihuahua] Capture that puppy moment in a beautiful 8x8 aluminium metal print. There are no time limits for this session because puppies are unpredictable. You could get your perfect shots right away or 30 minutes after their zoomies are over and they crash hard. It's really up to them.
